AP Update. I’m Lisa Meyer.

President Bush has given Israel a verbal slap on the wrist for a helicopter attack on the leader of Hamas. Spokesman Ari Fleischer says Bush is deeply troubled by the attack.
--- The president is concerned that the strike will undermine efforts by Palestinian authorities and others to bring an end to the terrorist attacks, and the president thinks that this action does not contribute to Israel’s security.
That attack injured the Hamas leader and left two others dead.

###slap on the wrist### 가벼운 잔소리, 꾸지람.

The Pentagon's top policy advisor says that stabilizing post-war Iraq has proven tougher and more complex than the Bush administration originally thought. Joseph Collins has told reporters that pre-war plans for restoring order in Iraq were comprehensive and carefully assembled. But he says once the plan became a reality, it had to be adjusted, sometimes quite a bit.

Joseph Collins(deputy assistant secretary of defense for stability operations)가 말하길, 전쟁 전 이라크 복구계획은 수긍이 가고 면밀히 기획되었으나 실제 현실에 부딪혔을 때 수정이 많이 필요하다고 합니다.

The Associated Press has conducted its first countrywide survey of civilians killed in Iraq. We get the story from Baghdad and correspondent Lourdes Navarro.
--- The investigation shows that at least 3,240 civilians were killed during the war in Iraq, many appear to have been the victims of American bombs and gunfire. However, as many witnesses describe, Iraqi soldiers often wore no uniform, making separating civilian and military casualties difficult. Witnesses also say some deaths were caused by the Iraqis themselves. The AP survey is based on the records of only 60 of Iraq’s 124 hospitals, indicating that the number of civilian casualties is almost certainly higher than the first Gulf War. According to Iraqi authorities, an estimated 2,278 civilians were killed in the fighting. Lourdes Navarro, Baghdad.

A firefight in Afghanistan has left four attackers dead, but the Americans who were involved are all said to be OK. Officials say that Afghan rebels opened fire on a US patrol, causing the Americans to return fire. The predawn attack came as US and allied forces were patrolling for guerilla fighters in a volatile area near the Pakistan border.

Former treasury secretary Donald Regan has died. Correspondent James Limbaugh with the story.
--- A spokesman at Merrill Lynch says Regan died of cancer following a brief stay at a Williamsburg, Virginia hospital. He was 84. Regan, who served under President Reagan as White House chief of staff as well as treasury secretary, was forced out of the administration in 1987, the result of the Iran-Contra scandal. 계속 듣고 말하고 받아쓰다 보면 언젠가는 길이 열린다….Hope all is well.

A study has found that an expensive drug approved during the 1990s works no better than ordinary aspirin at preventing recurring strokes in Blacks. In fact, there were hints that aspirin might indeed do a better job.

^^;;; Hope all is well.
