1
In the tall boughs on the tree top,
There's a nest snug and warm,
In it lies a little birdie,
Safe in sunshine and in storm.
2
And the wind blows through the branches,
Rocks the cradle to and fro,
Happy birdie, chirping, chirping,
Rocking safely to and fro.
3
And the bright leaves hang in clusters,
Birdie's curtains are they,
And they shade him while he's sleeping
When his parents are away.
4
In the evening, birdie's mother
Hovers o'er the cozy nest,
Warbling, singing, oh, so sweetly
Till her birdie is at rest.
