These roads lead me no where
But these tracks keep me moving
Down lines that amplify rhymes
That duel illusion and confusion
With a sharp tongue that paints a picture
With the softest and finest brush strokes
Drowned myself in water colours
And found it hard to stay afloat
Broke out the frame
And off the wall
They couldn’t keep the window sealed
When I shone so bright through the spyglass
Couldn’t help but be revealed
So I back tracked with my backpack
And stepped off the beaten path
Now they think I’ve come full circle
But they don’t even know the half
Passed over so many lines and narrow margins
That bordered close to unreadable scrawls
Took no chances with protection and put my writing on the wall
Now I’m very superstitious and I’m sure I’ve seen this place before
Back standing at the checkout when I know what they’ve got in store
When it rains it pours
Even though I’ve kept score
I ain’t so tired of getting wet
Filled my boots in the downpours of the applause
And traded the audience with regret
Now keep it coming
Embrace the movement
Full pace about to embrace the storm
Nestled in the breast of impermanence
With her breath to keep me warm
Torn out the page
Worn out the book
Left my writings on the water
Now they get hooked on sunken lines
That I cast out into a recorder
This ain’t what it oughta

Through thick and thin

The tables turn
The DJ cuts
It’s all put out at a cost
Better run tell mother
That her youngest son is lost
At sea to a lost cause
Of course the course wasn’t yet determined
Till I cut through the sail
And drew back the final curtain
All these years of putting work in
A wandering shepherd with no flock
Turned to a wolf in sheep’s clothing
Rinsing out the cream of the crop
Give me that last drop of water
I’ll plant and grow the seed
I’ll give the children what they need
And have them back in time to breed
They’ll never see it coming
Man this plan could work out great
Reconnecting to the constant cycle
Whilst covering all the breaks
On the thin ice that they like to skate
They’ll feel the warm exhale of my breath
Tripping over my word play
Till they finally reach their depth
Let go or not know
But always look for one to follow
With hollow eyes and weed breath
