Shoppers entering a Wal-Mart Supercenter got a reminder not to try anything funny.
Two shoplifters had to stand outside the store with signs reading, "I am a thief; I stole from Wal-Mart.”
Judge Kenneth Robertson Jr. ordered the two people to wear the signs for four hours each on Saturday.
"The only comments we've heard so far have been positive," said store manager Neil Hawkins.
"Most people thought it was a good thing."
One of the shoplifters, Lisa King Fithian, 46, wore the sign to avoid going to jail for 60 days while another convicted shoplifter did the same.
When asked about the punishment, both shoplifters said that it was humiliating but it was better than going to jail.
Outside the store, many shoppers tried not to pay attention to the two women but one WalMart shopper commented,
“Well, it really gives you food for thought.
No one wants to stand outside the store on a busy Saturday and tell people that they're a thief.
I know I won’t even think of doing anything wrong in the store now.”
