She was a little girl who loved to draw dragons
In her sketchbook is where she found an escape
So fearless was her young imagination
She had big goals to accomplish and she just couldn’t wait
But mommy and daddy who forgot they were once young too
Told her to stop dreaming, that she’ll grow out of it soon
A cold heart’s a strong heart it will help you survive
So put your heart in a lock and
Let your head be your guide
When you grow up do you really have to choose
To give up believing in magic for the sake of some truth
Have we all lost touch of that wonder and surprise
Those fairy tales before saying goodnight
Every birthday there’s always a celebration
But she can’t figure out why things don’t feel right
Maybe it’s because she doesn’t want to live just for survival
And what she wants is long lost and hard to find
Every so often she really misses her dragons
Because she worries that they’ve all been slain
Should she standby or try and save them
And if she decides to free her heart, is it too late
Is that little girl gone now, is there no one left to save
When you grow up do you really have to choose
To give up believing in magic for the sake of some truth
Have we all lost touch of that wonder and surprise
Those fairy tales before saying goodnight
She’s standing in still water
Feeling she should have done more, become more by now
Move away from the motionless
Choose away from being voiceless
Draft the lines to lead you further
When you grow up do you really have to choose
To give up believing in magic for the sake of some truth
Have we all lost touch of that wonder and surprise
Those fairy tales before saying goodnight
The possibilities through the eyes of a child
